JACKSON; GLEN IVAN
Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Glen Ivan Jackson was Promoted to Glory on March 22, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sheila, their two children, Curtis, and Michelle (Jason), and his three sisters Grace (Jack), Lillie (Terry), and Rose (Tom). Poppie is missed by his eight grandchildren: Ashley, Thomas-Jay, Burke, Madeline, Katie, Isabella, Joshua, and Isaac. The whole extended family was blessed by many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Brigadiers Ivan and Mabel Jackson.
The second of four children of Salvation Army parents, Glen was born in Nanaimo, British Columbia on July 29, 1944. After his family served in 10 ministry appointments across the country, Glen settled in Kingston, Ontario. As a faithful servant of God within The Salvation Army, he is remembered as a man of quiet faith and a gentle spirit, who testified by his service to others. He was a Bandsman, and Sunday School Youth Leader and always held a big place in the hearts of college students and young adults. Glen and Sheila opened their home and shared their lives with so many throughout the years, and many fondly recall good food, fellowship, and fun at their house. In his retirement years, Glen took on the role of head cook for The Salvation Army’s Gathering Place, a day-time shelter for the homeless. Glen cared about each person, he knew their names and always ensured there were hearty meals provided for those in need.
Glen met Sheila after arriving in Kingston in 1962 and she quickly became the great love of his life. They were married on August 21, 1965. As soul mates and best friends, they raised a family, advanced in their careers, enjoyed traveling, and experienced many wonderful adventures together. Always a Dad full of fun, jokes, and wise counsel, Glen loved to tell stories and take advantage of teachable moments. Hunting with Curtis and the boys was a favourite pastime that provided many opportunities for camaraderie, solitude and time spent outdoors. The father-daughter bond shared between Glen and Michelle was truly special. Glen provided a foundation of love, strength and tenderness that was evident his entire life, but never more pronounced than when he battled cancer. He took it all in stride, remaining positive and determined to finish well. He was deeply grateful for Michelle’s loving care and abilities as a nurse in his final years. Glen loved and supported his children as they followed their dreams and was known to always pray for and encourage them in life. He always took a great interest in whatever his grandchildren were doing. As dedicated fans, Glen and Sheila could often be found at the rink, field, court, or dance studio cheering them on.
The family would like to thank the palliative care team and community home care for their excellence in service and the way they treasured Glen. Arrangements entrusted to Scotland Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel on Friday, April 14 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 11 am. If desired in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4
