Gerald “Gerry” (Chiweiwei) Lawson MacLean

Age 80, passed peacefully at QEII Hospital, Halifax, NS on August 19th, 2023.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Jie MacLean, sister Helen Marguerite MacLean of Halifax,NS son Richard “Rick” Herbert Paul MacLean of Montreal, QC, daughter Wendy Deborah MacLean of Marmora, ON, grandchildren Rebecca Lynn MacLean-Stewart, and William MacLean-Stewart.
Predeceased by his parents, Verna Helen MacLean (nee Matheson) and Herbert Lawson MacLean, brothers Anthony William MacLean, Jeffrey Matheson MacLean, Herbert Theodore “Ted”Maclean, and his first wife Carolynn “Lynn” Laury MacLean (nee Mullin).
Gerry was born and raised in Sunnybrae, NB. He met and married Lynn in December 1965 and they moved to Montreal to begin their new life . Gerry was a drummer in high school, raced bikes and skydived and enjoyed those hobbies until he and Lynn had kids. He had a love of curling, lawn bowling and bridge with a passion for history and reading. After his first wife’s passing in 1995, he retired and traveled across Canada to the Yukon territory. There, he got to experience haying at 2am with niece Becky and her family. He met his current wife, Jie, when he went to China to teach English. He returned to Halifax in 2009 and Jie soon followed. They married in June 2011. Gerry and Jie traveled extensively, enjoying time in China, Thailand, and the sights across Canada. They had a large group of friends and were integrated into Halifax Chinese social circles.
Gerry loved reading, curling and his wife and family. He had an amazing life and will be sorely missed for his kindness, sense of humour and endless stories. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to The Marguerite Centre (www.themargueritecentre.com) in memory of Gerry.
