Obituary of George Bellefontaine
It is with deep sadness that we the family of George Francis Bellefontaine, age 87, of New Glasgow, announce that he had passed away August 3, 2023 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
It is a special journey
From this life to the next
Someday I’ll take that journey
Just to be with you
And when I get to heaven
Where we are free of all pain
I will put my arms around you Joan
And we will never part again
These are words our father wrote for our mother’s obituary. They are so beautiful and have finally come to be. An incredible man, husband and father in to many ways to mention.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Annabelle of Halifax; wife Joan (Joudrey) and son Gordon.
Born in Halifax July 27, 1936, a musician at heart, George took up the trumpet in his younger years playing in local bands in Halifax in the 1950’s. He married the love of his life Joan in 1955. George started his working career at the Halifax Herald and worked for a number of different printing and publishing companies throughout the Maritimes in positions from General Manager to Vice President. He retired from his career working for the Pictou Advocate. After retirement George and his wife Joan enjoyed their time together doing different activities until the passing of Joan in 2012 after 57 years of marriage. George heavily grieved her passing until one day he decided to pull the old trumpet out of the closet. From then until his passing, he found solace from his heartache and then it was all about his music, playing trumpet in different local brass bands and orchestras throughout the New Glasgow and surrounding area. He throughly enjoyed playing and meeting new friends and musicians in the area. George-always the musician.
He will be forever loved and missed by his sons Stephen and Lewis; sister Delores O’Neil; brother Arthur and sister in law Debbie, grandchildren Jade, Tyler and Devin; great-grandchilden Alisha, Elizabeth and Samantha; and so many family and friends.
His funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday August 16 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Trenton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
