Obituary
Passed away peacefully at the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 16th 2023 at the age of 84. He is survived by his nephews and niece; Dan, Greg and Terry Long and their families. Steve will also be missed by his dear friend Nancy Crole and his adopted grandson Bran-Don Waites.
The son of George and Ona King, Steve was born and raised with his sister Beverly Long (King) predeceased, in Niagara Falls. He was a graduate of the Toronto Teachers College and spent most of his teaching career in Caledonia. He dedicated many years to the Scouts Canada as a Scoutmaster.
He met his wife Shirley (predeceased) in Caledonia and upon retirement they relocated to Washago to live on the Green River. He was an active member of the Heritage United Church until its closure and sang in the choir as well. Steve volunteered his time to his friends, running errands and just generally helping them in their time of need. He loved animals; enjoying time with his cats and dogs. He and his dog Dalton were part of a therapeutic program providing comfort through visits to local retirement homes and when it was time; Dalton moved into a retirement home with Steve.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Therapeutic Paws Of Canada or the Ontario SPCA Orillia can be made in lieu of flowers.
