Gary Wayne Jones, of Douglastown, New Brunswick, passed away suddenly on May 13th.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Walsh), Nathan (son) and Tobey (daughter). He was predeceased by his parents, Herschel, and Doris (Wheaton) Jones, brother Richard “Dick” Jones and sister-in-law, Constance “Connie” (Jeffries). He had four grandchildren, Avery (Dorman), Derian (Dorman), Maggie (Jones) and Owen (Jones).
Born in 1946 in Timmins, Ontario, he and his family would eventually return to New Brunswick and settle in Devon. He excelled in local sports- playing baseball and hockey. A graduate of the Physical Education program at UNB, Dad would go on to teach Physical Education and coach at Harkins Junior High until 1986.
After teaching, Dad started his own maintenance business which would go on to aid many in his congregation with employment.
His pursuits in sport and secular work are not what defined Dad. His love of sport and family would be rivaled only by his love for Jehovah. Dad devoted a significant amount of his life to the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses , be it going door to door in the ministry or writing and conveying discourses at thelocal congregation and conventions. Dad was the first to offer a drive to those in need or new congregation members. He would turn a day in the ministry into a road trip, ending the day at local beaches or multi-day excursions camping. He would also coordinate afternoons at the school gym for friends and family, or hockey and baseball games where he could combine his love for sport, banter and faith.
His love for his faith never diminished right to the end. The love for Dad was clear as the condolences continue to come in from his brothers and sisters across the country. It is heartwarming to see the impact on the many people he has met in his life.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 3 pm, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah‘s Witnesses, 1040 King George Hwy, Miramichi, NB.
Contributions in Dad’s memory can be sent to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada or to the Canadian Psychological Association.
