Frederick Ewart Roger, formerly of Harriston, passed away at Strathcona LTC, Mount Forest, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in his 100th year.
Married to Margaret ‘Peggy’ Roger (nee Marnoch), Fred was father to Leslie of Toronto and stepfather to Kathleen (Paul) Farley, Martin (Edeltraud) Riordan, Terry Riordan, Shawn Riordan, and Dan Riordan. He was a grandfather to ten, and great grandfather to 6. Fred was predeceased by his first wife Joan Hemington.
Born in London, England, on November 24,1923, to Frederick and Elsie (Crabb) Roger, as a young boy Fred loved to play along the Thames and in the trainyards. His love for all things mechanical was bolstered when he joined the British Military’s Royal Engineers, serving in WWII. Anyone who knew Fred would agree that he was a master of all things mechanical; his impeccably maintained tools and workshop were an indicator of this.
Fred was happiest at the Blenheim property he shared with Peggy. With a beautiful yard that included fruit trees, a pond, ducks, gardens, and an incredible workshop, he would be outdoors all day working contentedly.
Fred will be missed by his family and friends who love him.
A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow.
Interment in Prospect Cemetery, Toronto.
Memorial donations to Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, or Harriston Legion Branch 296 would be appreciated.
