Obituary
SIMON, Frank George – (April 24, 1938 – September 2, 2023) It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Frank peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 85. Frank was the beloved husband to Gertrude, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a family that was the center of Frank’s world. He was the loving father to Cindy, Patricia (Rick), Donna (Alex), Kathy (Gino)and the late Joanne.
Cherished Papa to his grandchildren Krista (Michael), Louis (Guylaine), Amanda (Bradley), Suzy, Brittany (Joe), Richard (Jenny), Joshua, Gino (Liz), Frank (Cassie), Margaret (Simon), Olivia and great grandfather to Jonathan, Gavin, Violet, Brock, Kathlynn, Xander, Ayla, Holden and Ocktavia. Much loved brother to Violet Phillip and predeceased by his sister Helen Domjan and bothers-in-law Tony Phillip and Joseph Domjan. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Frank began his career at the age of 16 selling tickets at the Maid of the Mist. As a testament to his dependable and loyal character, he retired 44 years later as the General Manager with the meeting of his future wife Gertrude being the highlight of his career. He guided many people in his role throughout the years and was a prominent figure in Niagara Falls tourism. Frank and Gert lived many years on the Niagara Parkway, where many fond memories were made with his family and friends. Sundays were always reserved for BBQs and dinners at his home . In his time away from his work he enjoyed boating on the Niagara River, snow mobiling spending time in his garden, floating in his pool and cheering on the Chicago Black Hawks. Frank was a devoted parishioner at St. John the Baptist Hungarian Greek Catholic Church in Welland. The same church his parents, Frank and Julia Simon founded in 1953.
Frank was the centre of his family. Always offering a shoulder to lean on, and ear to listen, providing humble advice when needed. He loved cheering on his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s achievements and attending many of their sporting events. The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at Greater Niagara General Hospital. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Thursday September 7, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday September 8, 2023 at 1:30 pm at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church with the Rite of Interment to follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.
