Frank David Barry, of Vilna, Alberta, died suddenly in his 77th year at St. Therese Hospital in St. Paul. Frank was pre-deceased by his parents, Lewis Barry and Dorothy (White) Barry, and is survived by his sister, Marian McLeod (Bruce). Greatly missed by his nephews Andrew McLeod (Florence) and William McLeod, and his adored grand-nephew Ian Hei-Yeung McLeod.
Born and raised in Peterborough Ontario, Frank was a member of the first graduating class at Trent University in 1967, and received his BEd from Western University. After moving to Alberta to teach, he soon landed at the Vilna School, where he was on staff for nearly 40 years , teaching many subjects and coaching volleyball. A dedicated and committed member of his community, Frank was a long-serving member of the Vilna Fire department, the Agricultural Society, Lions Club, Library Board, and for several years served on the village council. He also served on many local committees, from Economic Development to Emergency Preparedness. In later years, he served on the Board of the Capella Women’s Shelter in St Paul.
A Memorial Service will be held in Vilna at a later date (details will be announced). Cremation has taken place. Our thanks to the staff at the Vilna Lodge, where Frank received such good care in his last years.
