On Sunday, January 1st, 2023, Ermenegildo Favot, known as Gildo, passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, at the age of 91. Gildo was born in San Vito al Tagliamento, Pordenone, Italy, on February 22nd, 1931, and was the eighth child of seventeen children from Antonio and Ida Favot. He immigrated to Canada in 1952, determined to build a better life for himself and his future family. Together with his wife of 64 years, Teresa, they raised their family of three children: Dario (Sonia), Diana (Denis), and Viviane (Ennio). Loving grandfather (Nonno) to Stephanie, Michael, Lucas (Sabrina), Myles (Stephanie), Myley, and Nevis. Proud great-grandfather (Bisnonno) to Margaret, Liam, and Austin.
Gildo was a hardworking, strong, and good-hearted gentleman that valued the gift of family. He worked in the formwork construction industry and could be described as tough on the job, yet, his fairness and gentle nature always came forward. Gildo took pride in his many contributions towards Toronto’s landmark buildings, where his memory will always remain.
As a man of few words, Gildo’s shoulder shrug quickly became his signature answer to questions, but it shared more expression than words could describe. He was a man of simplicity who never aimed to be in the limelight and would take life’s challenges as a lesson to experience. He often told stories of his life’s journey and shared a love for carpentry, travelling, listening to music, dancing, countryside drives, and playing Briscola with his siblings. His kids fondly remember their annual beach vacations and his passion for swimming – a memory they will forever cherish. In retirement, Gildo enjoyed keeping busy with his hobby farm and home that he built and lived in for 48 years. You could often find him woodworking in his garage making wooden toys, birdhouses, and kitchen utensils for his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family, close relatives, and friends.
Visitations will be received on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, from 2:00–4:00 P.M.; 6:00–8:00 P.M. at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St., S, Bolton.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 5th, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 60 Allan Dr., Bolton, with entombment to follow at Glendale Memorial Gardens, 1810 Albion Rd, Etobicoke.
