Obituary of Elizabeth Rose Galey
The death of Elizabeth Rose (Braman) Galey occurred in Fredericton on April 4, 2023. Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Saint John, NB on October 23, 1935, the daughter of the late John H. and Margaret (Shields) Braman. She was predeceased by her husband the Rev. Canon Leonard J. Galey and their son John Galey, as well as her sister Marjorie Crowther, brothers Roy, Tom and John Braman and her godson Peter Braman,
Elizabeth (Betty) is survived by her children Miriam Galey (Rick Thibault), Dutch Valley, NB; David (Katherine) Galey, McGregor Brook, NB; Sheila Galey (the late Bruce Pinsent) Dartmouth NS; Michael Galey (Marlene) Geary, NB; Elaine (Ian) MacInnis, Truro, NS; Kathryn (Roger) Collet, Upper Kingsclear NB; and foster son Robert (Laurie) Harper, Springfield Oregon. She is also survived by her brother David (Jeannette) Braman.
She loved her grandchildren dearly: Stephanie (Arron) Allen; Curtis and Gordon Galey; Amanda (Ryan) MacDonald; Daniel and Sarah MacInnis; Elise and Mathieu Collet; John Harper, Kerry Halford; and Ashley (Derrick) Pinsent-Tobin. She was blessed with great grandchildren: Harley-Anne, Keifer, Kristopher, Kody, Kayla, Jessica, Kallie and Adalynn. She also loved being “Aunt Betty’ to her many nieces and nephews.
Always holding a special place in her heart were niece Catherine (Peter) McAuley; Kathy (Don) Guzik and their daughter Laura; and godson Andrew (Francesca) Gorlick and their daughter Anica.
She shared an active ministry with Len in Anglican parishes throughout the province where she wore many hats: organist, choir master, Sunday school teacher; prayer chain and Bible study leader. She loved to share her faith journey with others and was actively involved with the Anglican Church Women; Anglican Cursillo of NB; the Order of St. Luke; March for Jesus; Billy Graham Crusades; and Alpha. Two of her most meaningful journeys were a prayer team mission trip to Cuba and her pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Betty and Len were actively involved as a Clergy Couple with Marriage Encounter, travelling across North America and beyond. They touched many lives through Marriage Encounter and it brought them the gift of life-long friendships.
She was a proud member of the International Order of King’s Daughters and Sons. She loved attending events at Chautauqua, NY. She served as NB Branch President and the International Student Ministry Director. She was a Life Member of Central Council and was awarded an IOKDS honorary Life Membership.
There was a twinkle to her eyes, a song in her heart, a tune on her lips, unlimited hugs and “smackeroos” and always a final “Love you, God Bless!”
