In Loving Memory of Edward Francis Joseph McFarlane
1942 – 2023 80 years old
In loving memory of Edward McFarlane, September 23, 1942 – June 28, 2023, who passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital with family at his side.
He was the son of the late Ruth (Vickers) and Gerald McFarlane of Chatham Head. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Shea) McFarlane; his sons: Colin (Eileen) of Ottawa and Michael (Sonja) of Miramichi; and his daughter, Barbara (Marty) of Miramichi. He is also leaving his five grandchildren: Kayley, Michaela, Catherine, Brennan and Spenser; They were the love of his life.
He also leaves to mourn his three sisters: Margaret Ann (Leo), Bernadette and Mary Lee; and his four brothers: David (Loraine), John (Laurie), Frankee (Rose) and Byron (Leah); his brothers-in-law: Vernon (Sharon) Shea and Jack Savage. Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by sisters and brother-in-law: Carmel Savage, Colin and Mabel Shea, and three nieces: Stacey McFarlane, Melanie Crocker and Deana Cote.
Edward worked since he was a teenager in canteens, grocery store (Save-Easy) and later manager of the Canex Store at CFB Chatham. In 1978 he took up upholstery and had his own shop “Ed’s Upholstery” for over 40 years. He took great pride in his work.
He was committed to community service as a member of the Chatham Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Chatham where he was a Paul Harris fellow.
He was fortunate in his life to have a group of very good friends. In early years he curled and golfed, and then later he had great times playing darts, cards and bowling.
A life well lived and as his granddaughter Catherine says “He’s waltzing with Bears”, probably at Gardiners Point with his Tilly hat on. So many fun days were spent over 50 years at McFarlane’s cottage.
Thank you to the Extra-Mural nurses, family, Dr. Gandham, Oncology, Dr. Harb (Moncton) and Dr. Watts and staff in Oncology at Miramichi Regional Hospital. The past two weeks Edward was well looked after by staff on 2West and Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation will occur at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Sunday, July 9th, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. By Edward’s request there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at a later date.
He leaves behind his 16 year old dog Benji, and therefore requests that donations would be made to the Miramichi SPCA in his memory.
