Dusanka Sobot

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dusanka Sobot after a life well lived for 84 years.
Born in Kamenica, Drvar, Bosnia (former Yugoslavia), she bravely came to Hamilton, Canada with her husband Dragan at the age of 23 seeking an opportunity for a better life. She later helped bring her sister Kova, husband Bosko, nephews Vladimir and Chedo Sobot to Canada in the early 70’s.
Dusanka is predeceased by her mother and father, Petar and Smiljana Bursac and 9 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons Veso (Susan), Bob (Marlene); and her grandchildren Peter and Lauren; sister Kova, nephews Vladimir (Dragica) and Chedo (Senka).
She raised her two sons Veso and Bob while she diligently worked many jobs. This included the Old Cotton Mill on Mary St and Dominion Glass located on Chapel St.
She made many lifelong friends through work, the Serbian community, and in her neighborhood. She was a talented seamstress who often made clothes for friends. Dusanka was an able “DIY-er” before it was popular – she took great pleasure in fixing her triplex almost singlehandedly for almost 60 years.
After retiring in 1993, Dusanka focused her energy on doting on her grandchildren.
Visitation to be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home located on 1010 Botanical Drive Burlington, on Thursday, January 5th at 12:00pm. Funeral Service to be held at 1:00pm officiated by Priests Djuro Samac and Dragomir Ninkovic. Burial to follow funeral service at 2:30pm at Woodlands Cemetery. Public reception to follow the burial at Bay Gardens Funeral Home from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Serbian Orthodox Church Building Fund (www.snsn.ca ) would be appreciated.
