Obituary of Dr. Gerald Esmond Stiles
Dr. Gerald Esmond Stiles passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023, with the support of the very caring and empathetic staff at St. Joseph’s hospital. Dr. Stiles was a respected and distinguished surgeon, treating New Brunswick patients for over 40 years. He was also a mentor to younger doctors at Dalhousie Medical School.
Son of Dr. Esmond and Vesta (Wiggins) Stiles, Jerry knew from a young age that he wanted to be a physician, like his father. His passions spanned fishing trips, gourmet meals, wine pairing, travel and weekends at the Camp.
Sadly, Jerry lost his with Judith in November of 2022. This was deeply felt and the loss inconsolable. A physician who dedicated his life’s service to helping others, succumbed to a broken heart. Jerry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Ron Hierlihy of St. Albert, Alberta as well as 3 nieces, also of St. Albert, and a very special quarter horse named Murphy.
Arrangements will be made in the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Given the distance of family members, there will be no visitation at this time, but a Celebration of Life may be conducted at a later date. The family would like to thank the many friends who helped and supported Judi and Jerry during their illnesses. Those wishing to make a donation can do so to the Oncology Department at St. John’s Regional Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
