Dorothy’s Obituary
Casey, M. Dorothy “Dort” – 88, Springhill, passed Thursday, January 12th, 2023 in All Saints Springhill Hospital after a short illness. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late William and Dora (Allen) Casey. Dorothy was known by most for working many years at Stedmans. After Stedmans closed, she worked at D&J Hardware and then did some cleaning around town for others. She also “senior sat” with a couple special ladies. Many will remember her as the tiny lady with a big heart who could be seen walking daily regardless of the weather. A woman of great faith, she was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church, Springhill. She absolutely loved family time and always provided her special tray of goodies. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and they thought of her as a grandmother. She always had a bowl of candy and chocolate on her table for everyone to enjoy. She had strong interest in genealogy and collected much information on her family heritage. She spent a lot of time crocheting and reading. The last few years she enjoyed gardening, watching the birds and nature. She will always be remembered for her smile and kindness. Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Jerry (Marlene), Brighton, ON; Bernard (Dawn), Springhill; special sister-in-law, Pat Casey, Springhill; nieces, Jennifer and Christina; nephews, Dale and Bill; 12 great and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. She was especially close to nephews, Michael (Angela) and Brent and their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Doug and Edmond; sister, Ella and one infant brother. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
