Mrs. Doreen May Schwantz, age 85, a resident of Anne Hathaway Residence, Stratford, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on January 30, 2023. Born in Stratford, daughter of Herbert and Lillian Tew.
Beloved wife of the late Lester Schwantz who predeceased her May 13, 2016. Loving mother of Dwayne (Brenda), Robert (Sharon). Grandmother of Justin Schwantz, Adam Schwantz (Dakota), Brittany Luckhardt (Scott), Jennifer Schwantz (Jason). Great grandmother of Kaeden Luckhardt. Sister of Barb Arthur (Ken). Also survived by a sister-in-law Rhoda Tew and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a great granddaughter Sophie Lee Schwantz Rustin, sister Margaret Kelly (Ronald), brother Donald Tew (Arlene), nephews Ronald Kelly Jr., Murray Arthur, aunt Dorothy Diehl, Lester’s aunt Marie Neeb and mother-in-law and father-in-law Annie and Joseph Schwantz.
Doreen was employed at Johnson Controls (Can Fab) in 1970 until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Mary Martha Society, L.W.M.L.C. and the Lively Lutherans.
The family would like to thank Dr. Leanne Peters of Star Health Team Stratford , Dr. Marco Mura of LHSC , the various Community Support coordinators and workers , EMS personal, Doctors , nurses and support staff of the hospitals mom had been in over the last 5 years, Rev. Matthew Fenn, and a most special thank you to Anne Hathaway Residence staff and residents who welcomed mom from day one of her stay and provided her comfort until her last.
Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, February 8, from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 115 Cambria Street, Stratford from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Matthew Fenn will officiate. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
