Donald Radcliffe Whitehead passed away at home on February 15, 2023 in his 84th year; after a long illness. He was born in Toronto, the son of Frank and Lillian Whitehead (nee Shaw). Rad was a well known entrepreneur who tackled many projects, always with the vision of what could come next. He was very proud of the trail system in Collingwood and enjoyed the challenge of connecting the pieces.
Rad will be greatly missed by his supportive and loving life partner, Barbara Yeo, his sister and brother-in law, Bonnie and Cor Iliohan, his niece and nephew Audrey Anderson and Brendon Anderson and their children. He was predeceased by his brother John Whitehead, father of Paul, David and Thomas Whitehead. He was also predeceased by his sister Wilma Emmett, mother of David Emmett, Bradlet Emmett and Barbara Morden. He had an extended family of great nieces and nephews, and everyone in the family will fondly miss his wit, knowledge and intelligence. Rad loved to travel, and enjoyed learning about the world and the people in it the challenge of a new language was a treat. His independent and curious mind never lacked for ideas for a new project.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Rad’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 490 Ontario St, Collingwood on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Where those who knew him can come together to honour his memory and share stories of his impact on their lives.
