It is with aching hearts we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Hockett, our beloved husband, father, Poppa, brother, uncle, and friend. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Terry; daughters Denise (Tim) and Shelley (Brad), and five cherished grandchildren, Mark, Kaitlin, Kyle, Derek and Amy; as well as siblings Darlene (Bill), Brent (Charielyn), Mavis, Glenda (John) and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his mother Adelene, and father Glen.
Dad was born in Wainwright, Alberta as the firstborn to Glen and Adelene Hockett. He lived in Irma for most of his childhood years and left home at the age of 17 to work. He started in Banff and helped construct the Norquay ski lift. He went on to drive truck for a number of years and raise a young family until he landed his lifechanging position at Premay Equipment. Dad proudly worked for Premay until the company was sold, at which time he and Mom took the leap and started Stampede Crane and Rigging in 1995. They worked tirelessly and grew it into a well-respected company. Faced with deteriorating health, they sold their beloved company to take care of Dad while he awaited a double lung transplant. Prayers were answered in July of 2009 when the long-awaited call came that a match was available! After a successful transplant, Mom and Dad finally began their retirement years spending time in Phoenix and Lake Koocanusa. With Mom’s diagnosis of Frontal Temporal Dementia in 2018, they ultimately settled in Calgary.
Dad was never one to back away from a challenge and was a very ambitious man always looking for new opportunities. He loved a good time and was never one to say no to a whiskey! He loved debating politics, loved his Timmies (medium black in a large cup), should have had shares in Fox News, would always talk money and investments, and wholeheartedly loved his wife and his family.
Dennis will be greatly missed and forever remembered. His loss has left a huge void in our family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Southern Alberta Transplant Program for the last 14 years of devoted care. We appreciate the care, concern, hugs, and medical interventions from the PLC staff in the pulmonary unit this last month.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University Hospital Foundation Lung Transplant Program. Donation information to follow.
A Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at the Highwood Memorial Centre on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
Caring for the family is Lyle Reeves Funerals of High River (Craig Snodgrass) 403.652.4242.
