TAYLOR, DAVID WILLIAM
8 October 1981 – 22 August 2023
“Precious gift of God given to us for 41 years.”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved David.
Dave was world-renowned for his prankster ways, never letting an opportunity go by when he could catch someone in his joke, always with a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his face. Laughter was a way of life for Dave; his tremendous sense of humour knew no bounds – everyone was a target for his teasing and tormenting.
Dave’s extensive vocabulary included more curse words than most people learn in a lifetime; he may even have invented some of his own originals. Never holding back his opinion, you always knew where you stood with Dave.
A rebel and spitfire in his youth (ahem – quite the handful), Dave became an adventurous adult, living life hard and fast. Sometimes daring beyond belief, many of his family and friends could tell stories of his fearless (crazy?!) exploits. There was never a dull moment when Dave was around – he was often the life of the party.
Although Dave was not overly fond of school, he was a life-long learner, usually self-taught. You could often find him tinkering with his vehicle and his toys. He enjoyed all things about weaponry and had quite a collection. Music was a passion, and he taught himself to play a variety of instruments (to varying degrees of success), especially the guitar. It wouldn’t have been surprising to walk into his place and find him singing and strumming.
Generous to a fault, Dave shared freely what he had. He made people feel welcome and appreciated, no matter their circumstances. He always seemed to know the right thing to say, even if it was wildly inappropriate. And he gave the absolute best bear hugs around.
We can imagine Dave telling us not to let his death define his life. He would encourage us to live life to the fullest, love fiercely, work hard enough to pay the bills, and play even harder. And as for family – Dave would want you to hold them close and tell them you love them as often as possible.
Dave was predeceased by his beloved dad Bill Taylor of Orillia (2021), his sister Janet Westerling of London (2020), and his grandparents Jan & Aafke VanderBoon of Orillia (1989).
Dave will be fondly remembered by every person whose life he touched. He was the soulmate of Sheri Smith of Severn Township; the dearly loved son of Jackie Taylor of Orillia; baby brother and friend of Juanita & Paul Harkema of Guelph and Harry Westerling of Timmins; wild and crazy uncle of Madalayna Harkema of Kitchener and Jordan Westerling & Braydan Westerling of Timmins; and the birth father of Drew Robertson of Huntsville. Dave also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to mention, as well as a multitude of friends and coworkers.
Dave definitely didn’t want a funeral, stating that he’d really rather we had a big party instead, but there will be a Visitation on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 2-4 pm at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St E Orillia.
According to his wishes, Dave was an organ & tissue donor, and has been cremated. In lieu of flowers or other tokens, please take a moment and register yourself as an organ donor.
Join us as we raise a glass and celebrate Dave with a toast, “Although less than an average lifespan, Dave did not live an average life by any means. He did as he wanted, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix, and loved who he wanted to love – all with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. So here’s to Dave – you will be missed.”
