Obituary
It is with heavy heartache that we share with family & friends the peaceful passing of David Bruce Edwin Vollmer, age 63 of Stratford. He passed away on March 8, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the centre of our world, a kind loving father and devoted husband. David fought a courageous 10-month battle with cancer, a warrior to the end.
David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elaine and his two children Erin & Craig. His sisters and brothers, Lynnette McLeod (Wayne), Wendy Ladd, Sheree Vollmer (Paul Sterkenburg), Larry Vollmer (Janice), Ben Haynes (Casandra Frampton), father-in-law, Albert Smith (Loralee) and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his father, Bruce Vollmer, his mother and step-father, Darlene & John Haynes, his mother-in-law, Dayle Smith and brother in law Sergeant Kelly Smith.
David worked at Stackpole International as a CNC Setter Operator. He had many hobbies over the years which included playing hockey, baseball, curling, darts and cribbage. He enjoyed spending his time by the pool with family and friends, cheering on the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was an animal lover and enjoyed walking his dogs Ty & Lux.
David will be remembered by many for his generosity, crazy story-telling, quick wit, fun loving free spirited personality and quirky smile.
A special thank you to Bob Steel for his spiritual guidance on David’s journey and all our close friends & family members who rallied together for our family during this difficult time.
A special thank you to the medical team at London Health Science Centre (Dr. Michael Sanatani, Dr. Sara Colozza & Julie Garrett), Stratford General Hospital Cancer & Chemo Care Unit (Dr. Janice MacNaughton, Dr. Angela Caines & the amazing nursing staff) and the incredible team at Care Partners which include, Dori, Carrie, Leanne, Joanne, Danielle, Hilary and Karen.
Our family invites those who knew Dave to join us in a celebration of life which will be held on Saturday April 22, 2023 at the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Hall, Stratford from 1-4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 3 pm.
