Dave Baldwin Sr.
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dave “Gump.”
With Annette, his wife of 46 years by his side, Dave passed away peacefully on May 30th at the age of 73.
Proud father of David Jr., Jeffrey (Lisa), Derek (Melanie) and Ashley. Loving Poppy to Travis, Layla, Avangeline, Jonathan and Carter.
Dave will be deeply missed by his siblings Peggy (Phil, predeceased), Judy (Frank), Greg (Cathy), Larry (Marg), Dan (Jacqueline), Millicent (Mike), Charl (Marie), Stan (Mellany), Brian (Sueann).
Dave, also known as Uncle Gump will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Born in Montreal, Quebec Dave was the 3rd of 10 children born to Joe and Elsie Baldwin. When he was just months old, The Baldwin family left Montreal and moved back to Newfoundland where they would call Carbonear home.
Dave was a hard worker his entire life. As a young teenager in Newfoundland, he began fishing on dragger boats. In his late teens, he moved to Ontario, he started off landscaping, then working for Uniroyal and eventually he became a “Tire Man.” A job title he would hold until the age of 59. At 23 he met Annette Jollimore. They would marry, have four children and spend the next 46 years together.
Dave loved golfing, moose hunting, ice fishing, playing the guitar, and being with his family. He was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan and a secret Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was kind hearted, a gentle soul, a big softy, an absolute joy to be around.
In 2010 he suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed on the left side of his body. Although he had physical limitations, he never lost his sense of humor, his Newfie charm, his generous heart, or his magnetic personality. For the past 13 years he battled through pain and discomfort, slowly losing strength and mobility. But, even during his final weeks he still found the time to crack a joke and make people smile.
The Baldwin Family would like to thank the nursing staff at Headwaters Health Centre for taking such great care of our darling Dave during his final days. The kindness and compassion the entire staff showed during this difficult time was above and beyond.
Dave will be missed terribly by his family and friends. He was an absolute gem and the world is less bright without him. The family takes comfort in the fact that he passed away on his own terms, peacefully, with no pain. It will be incredibly hard to move forward without our sweet brown and blue-eyed Dave, but he’s now singing a sweet Newfie tune with his Mom and Dad up in paradise.
The family invites you to join them on Friday June 9th, at Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 1666 Tottenham Road, Tottenham. Visitation will begin at 3:00pm and go until the service at 4:00pm. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Tottenham Branch located at 25 Richmond Street, Tottenham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. To leave expressions of sympathy please visit www.RodAbramsFuneralHome.com
