Obituary
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of a loving Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Great-grandpa and Brother, Daniel John Wourms on Sunday December 18, 2022 in Penticton, BC.
Daniel was the 6th of 9 children born to Hubert & Walburga (Pitzel) Wourms. He was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt, SK on July 16, 1941.
He was raised on the family farm northwest of Fulda, SK and graduated from St. Peter’s College in Muenster, SK.
Daniel loved playing the saxophone and having family jam sessions with his cousins on weekends. He also belonged to a travelling band and played at many wedding dances and social events.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, curling, motor-cycling and snowmobiling. He played and coached baseball and hockey teams and kept himself busy doing woodworking. Family and friends craved his BBQ chicken.
His first place of employment was with CIBC, which, over the next 35 years stationed him in several locations throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. Daniel enjoyed interacting with people and all aspects of work and volunteer life. He served each community by belonging to many Service Clubs.
He was Chairman on the committee to plan and organize Celebrate Saskatchewan and Alberta Summer Games. Managed the Glenburn golf course. Was treasurer of the Alberta Junior Hockey league for 22 years. Received recognition for his service from the Canadian Hockey Association.
After retiring in 1994, Daniel worked a couple years for the Business Development in Red Deer, AB.
For eight years, Dan loved being a “White Hatter” at the Calgary International Airport.
On January 16, 2010 he was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in Olds, AB. Later that year, Penticton became our retirement home. Soon he became involved with the Penticton Newcomer’s Club Membership. He had Seasons Tickets for attending the Penticton Vees Hockey games for many years. Recently he held a position on Council as treasurer of Scottsdale condo.
Grieving Daniel’s passing are his wife of 60 years, Audrey; children, Darren, Maureen (OJ Larson-deceased), Craig (Wendy Anne); grandsons, Logan (Shawnice), Tate; great-granddaughter, Eira; 3 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held on June 17, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Penticton.
