Dale Evan Groombridge passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. He was born on June 5, 1946 to Lloyd and Beatrice Groombridge of Chatham, Ontario. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Audrey (Babkirk) Groombridge, with whom he would have celebrated 55 years of marriage later this month.
Blessed to call him father were his four children and their spouses, Sean and Beth Groombridge, Kirk and Rebecca Groombridge, Susan and Kevin Thames, and Kyle and Hannah Groombridge. Proud grandfather to Kaiden, Kaleb, Cameron, Carissa, Chloe, and Kenton. Loving brother-in-law, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Dale was predeceased by his parents as well as his older brother, Larry.
Dale was a life-long follower of Jesus and loved to share his faith with others. He was a prayer warrior who served faithfully in various aspects of church life including youth ministries for over 25 years. The consummate encourager, he always had a kind word to share with those he knew and had a real heart for life’s “underdogs”. Dale had a servant’s heart and will be remembered as a man of faith, integrity and character.
Dale graduated from the University of Windsor in 1969 with an Honours in Business Administration Degree. He worked with IBM in Toronto right out of university before changing career paths to become a Real Estate Broker which would be his career for the next 50+ years, right up until the time of his passing.
An avid golfer in his younger days, he won the 1962 Es-Kent Boys Tournament Championship, among others. He also loved the Detroit Red Wings, music, trivia, a good joke, and most of all his family of which he was immensely proud.
He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14th, 2023 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Gregory Drive Alliance Church (255 Gregory Drive West, Chatham, ON). A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 7:00pm at Gregory Drive Alliance Church.
Memorial donations can be made to local faith communities, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
