It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing on Friday, March 31, 2023, of Cynthia Kathleen Saxby, 75 of Mill Village, formerly of Martins Brook.
Cynthia was born on October 20, 1947 in Everett, Massachusetts and raised in Upper Lahave. The only child of the late Abbott & Mildred (Hirtle) Wolfe. She was pre-deceased by her half-sister Beatrice (Wolfe) Cole, Lynn, Massachusetts, and half-brother Alfred Wolfe, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Pre-deceased and deeply loved by her husband of 49 years and two months, Hewat Saxby. Together they raised four children; Jonathan (Tanya), Whitehorse, Yukon, Jennifer, Mill Village, NS, Jeffrey (Evelyn), New Chelsea, NL, James (Kelly), Bridgewater, NS.
Cynthia’s heart swelled with pride over her eight grandchildren (Rylee, Owen, Maren, Theo, Hugo, Catherine Rose, Edward and Rudy) who she always welcomed with a warm hug, and loved to spoil with her famous homemade treats.
Cynthia’s journey as an educator began after she graduated from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1968. With her firm but kind style of teaching, she touched the lives of several generations of grade one students during 36 cherished years at Blockhouse and Bayview elementary schools. Having kept every ornament and trinket ever gifted to her, she could fondly recount the students and stories behind each one.
In her free time, Cynthia enjoyed bowling with her regular crew of retired teachers, a testament to the bonds she formed with her colleagues throughout her career. When springtime rolled around, those close to Cynthia would notice a sparkle in her eye and a hop in her step as she laid out the plans for her outdoor masterpieces, the gardens she nurtured as warmly as those she loved. The landscape of her gardens never grew stagnant, for she was known for happily digging up her hard work to gift to anyone who admired her creations or shared her passion. Always prepared with the coffee on, she welcomed all into her home, ready to listen and share her thoughtful insights along with her Chipits cookies.
A life spent caring for and guiding others, Cynthia’s selflessness, patience, and devotion to her family and friends was unbounded.
Rest in peace. May your gardens continue to bloom while you once again find love in the arms of your soulmate.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a gathering to celebrate Cynthia’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Steven Hiltz facilitating. Interment will be at Martins Brook Cemetery, Martins Brook.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Dialysis Unit of the Queen’s General Hospital, Liverpool, Nourish Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
