Obituary
On June 25, 2024, we sadly had to say goodbye to our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother just 10 days after her 98th birthday.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Fred Holloway Sr., her loving and adored son Fred Holloway Jr. ( just 5 short months ago ) and her infant daughter Mary.
She was also predeceased by her parents Michael and Lillian ( O’Neill ) Byrne, her brothers William, Gregory, Leo, Michael, Edward, and Robert. As well as her sisters Marie, Mary and baby sister Theresa ( who passed away in a landslide on Southside Road in 1936, in which Mom and her brother Bob survived ). Her sisters-in-law Emily Byrne, Rose Byrne, and Ina Byrne, along with brothers-in-law Brendan Hurley, and Gerald Bishop. Mom was also predeceased by Dad’s two brothers and three sisters Edward, Walter, Elizabeth, Emily and Audrey as well as other members of the Byrne and Holloway families.
Leaving to mourn with broken hearts, her daughters Patricia McGrath ( Robert, deceased ), Linda Evans ( Terry, deceased ) and her wonderful daughter-in-law Barbara Holloway ( Fred, deceased ) who looked after her for 18 years and was like a daughter to her. Also mourning her loss are her sisters Lucille Brake ( Gordon ) of Marystown, and sister-in-law Loretta Vere-Holloway ( Walter, deceased ) of St. John’s. Mom also leaves 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson along with numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her.
We would like to express so much gratitude to all the wonderful angels at St. Clare’s Hospital who cared for Mom with a special thank-you to Prino, R.N. in the Palliative Care Unit, who was always so caring and supportive to us in those last hours. We would also like to thank the great ambulance paramedics who were so gentle and kind to Mom after her fall. If we have forgotten to mention anyone, know that every ounce of kindness shown to us was very much appreciated.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, on Friday, June 28, 2024 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Teresa’s Church on Saturday June 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Mom, if we had been given a chance to choose our mother at birth, we would have chosen you from all the mothers on earth. We Love You!
