Sheila Mary Heath Obituary
On June 10, 2024, our mother and Wonder Woman, Sheila Mary Heath passed away into God’s graces, she was 81 years old. Sheila was predeceased by her loving husband Douglas Heath, Son Scott, parents Richard Squires and Mary (Murphy), sister Barbara Carroll ( Bill) brothers Richie and James Also, sisters in law: Elizabeth Hennessey (Gord) Jean Vincent (Chesley), Una Davis (George) Judy Byrd along with brothers in law: Cyril Heath (Matilda) and Wayne Heath. She is survived by many loving individuals, including children: Richard, Michael (Elaine Kelly) Sherry Power (Keith), Todd, Darrell (Raylene Rowe), Dawn Lockwood (John) and Karen (Rob Rodgers). Also survived by brothers in law Ed Heath (Sylvia) and Gordan Heath (Patricia), sister-in-law Pauline Heath and daughter in law Angie Earle. Grand children whom mom loved with her soul: Adam, Tania, Greg, Alex, Jesse, Jamie, Haven, Evan and Nathan. One great granddaughter Emma, great grandson Alex and many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends also bid her farewell.
Throughout life, Sheila stood fiercely devoted to family. She cared for her parents in their illnesses before death and we know our father would be proud of how his children took care of mom during her time without him, this past year. Sheila was the heart of our home as she raised eight children in a happy and loving environment. Being a role model of love and endurance, this year would mark her 63rd wedding anniversary and we find comfort in knowing she is once again in dad’s embrace. As mom grew her family, the neighbors mistook her for having a job in daycare, little did they know, having eight children in as many years only proved how much love she had to give. As children, many of us had major illness or injury that landed us in hospitals, sometimes for months at a time and others at the same time. Not to mention the many times dad was hospitalized with his own traumatic medical emergencies but in all that, never did we see her be vulnerable, she remained a pillar of strength right up until her last breath.
Mom loved to garden, just like dad. Together they shared their love of growing and nurturing a garden and watching the birds play amongst the trees, shrubs and flowers not unlike how they parented our growing family. Even up until last year, mom would be found sitting in the garden with her eyes closed listening to the birds and whistling away as if she conversed with them. During her time at St. Patrick’s, we would ensure she got out to the garden there to enjoy the sound of the river, rustling leaves and birds that played in the area. On that note, the family would like to thank the staff at St. Patrick’s Nursing home for overseeing moms care this past year, especially the group on 2N/S, Chris Fudge from 4th floor for his continued visits and Kathy Martin, social worker.
As per our parents wishes, cremation will take place before the memorial service and burial will occur immediately after when she will be reunited again with the love of her life. It was dad’s wish to not be interned until mom was called home and they once again will be together. Dad wrote a poem for mom before his passing so these are words she has been reminded of these past few days: “he told her that when they are united again, to look for him to the right of St. Peter. She will find a picnic tables, chairs, red and yellow rose beds as far as the eyes can see. A clear stream babbling by with a small pond and a bench for them to be. In the pond there are two white geese and a mother duck with her baby ducklings. They will watch as they sit under the shade of a large maple tree. As he was joined by all their loved ones that have gone before him, they too will welcome her home. He will once again put the kettle on for her cup of tea and a bikkie.”
Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Friday, June 14 from 4:00-9:00pm. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00am from Barrett’s Chapel. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
To our mom we bid farewell. You have been our sunshine on cloudy days, our snuggle puppy, and Wonder Woman. In dad’s words, “Toast, Hugs and Kisses from all!”
