Gail R. Murray, Age 71, of Horseheads, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 13th, 2024. Gail was born in Fulton, NY to John and June Murray (Tice) on August 2nd, 1952. She went to High school at Oswego Catholic High School and Graduated in 1970. Gail went on to earn several degrees and accolades through SUNY Moorseville (Nursing), eventually earning her bachelor’s degree and Master of Divinity at SUNY Empire. Gail spent her entire life in service of others. She was the most selfless person we have ever known. After becoming a nurse in 1972, Gail began her 50+ years in nursing, starting at Pontiac Nursing Home. Quickly being promoted to supervisor, Gail worked at various Long Term Care facilities and hospitals, eventually becoming the Director of Nursing at the former Founders Pavilion in Corning, N.Y. In 2006 she received her NYS Administrator license and finished her career at Good Shephard Communities in Endicott, NY. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gail attempted to be semi-retired but continued assisting various facilities, finally just retiring for good this past year.
Gail had many hobbies and interests, most having to do with family. She enjoyed a good book, especially Stephen King novels, gardening, and swimming in her pool. She mostly enjoyed her morning coffee with Shaun, golfing with Christopher, and watching Michael’s Cross Country and Track Meets. To anyone who was willing to listen, she would share how proud she was of her four grandchildren. With Mackenzie, she loved watching Jurassic Park together. Gail also enjoyed beating Morgan at Scrabble. With Raemi, she loved going to a movie theater where it was just them, talking and joking as loud as they wanted. She loved showing Mylan her pictures and knickknacks through Facetime. She enjoyed Reiki with Peg Davis and numerous other friends. She would do anything in her interest (or not) with her best friend of 30+ years, Erica Darmstadt. She would also say her favorite son was Derek (her pup). Most of all, those who knew her, she was all about her boys… the New York Giants.
Gail is survived by her mother: June Murray of Oswego, NY; brother: Tom Murray (Diane, Valerie, Falecia, David, Paul, Shane, Lilian) of Oswego, NY; sister: Michelle Peterson (Warren, Daniel, Taylor, Cameron) of Oswego, NY; brother-in-law: Tim Hogan (Benjamin, Amy, Joseph) of Scriba, NY; son: Shaun Vrabel (Jaclyn Liquori, Raemi) of Elmira, NY; son: Christopher Vrabel (Katie, Mackenzie (Liam), Morgan (Rain) of Horseheads, NY; son: Michael Vrabel (Susan, Mylan) of Danville, IN. She was pre-deceased by her father John Murray of Oswego and Sister, Debora Hogan of Scriba.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 22nd, 2024 at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a Memorial Service immediately following at 2:00 PM.
