Nobody else held me so
tight
Or made me feel so right
No one’s eyes
shined so bright with love
As my mom and wife, who is now
high above.
– Tamsen

The world lost a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt,
and friend, Rosarie Furlong (Power), on October 5, 2023. Rosarie had a
short battle with breast cancer, but it never stopped her
from giving out the best hugs, loving advice, and care to the
many people she loved. Rosarie spent her remaining months in her home
surrounded by her husband, William, her children, Scott,
Kathleen, and Jeanette, and the most adored and
loved grandchild, Isla Rose.
Rosarie was born in Mount Carmel, NL on August 10, 1954. She
claims to have learned everything she knew from her own loving
parents, Frank and Hannah Power who she devoted many years
to caring for.
Rosarie worked as a teacher in her younger years where she
met her loving husband of 47 years in St. Brendan’s. She
devoted her life to her children, and family and valued
applying her Catholic faith – particularly treating
all people with respect and honesty – to every part of life.
She was the rock and moral compass of her family and enjoyed
every day filled with music, loved ones, and
laughter.
Rosarie had a gift for listening andunderstanding people and
was selfless in her concern for others’ well-being first. We were
fortunate to have spent over ten years together in
Fort McMurray enjoying family meals, campfires, celebrations,
and vacations together making cherished
memories.
Rosarie is survived by her brothers Gerard, Clifton,
Brian (dear friend Patsy), George (Trudy), her beloved sister
Monica (Clyde), her dearest friend Helen, as well as many
treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved beyond
measure.
She was preceded in death by her loving sister
Geraldine (Bern) and close friend and sister-in-law,
Marilyn.
Our family would like to thank everyone for their love and
support through the past few months, there are too many
people to count, and every act of kindness, call, and message
was appreciated. The Power and Furlong families for their
countless visits and endless help, Dana and Holly for
the hundreds of texts as we worked through caring
for her during her illness, Patsy and Brian for being here
for everything possible, friends Helen Maher, the
Gregory family, Ted and Elaine Furey, Heather Marrie,
Marg Marrie, Web and Isabelle Hearn, Gordan and Threasa
Dinn, Geraldine Butland, Bernard Bonia, Michael
Drohan, Tonya Whittle, Krista Critch, for the food, visits,
gifts and help that she was eternally grateful for and we cannot
express how much your kindness helped us through.
A special thank you to the nurses at the Health Sciences
Center, her final nurse Kevin from St. Clair’s Hospital, Dr.
Fardy, community health nurses, her home support workers, and
Maher’s Funeral Home (especially Karen who has been
so wonderful) who provided so much help and compassion.
Friends and family are invited to say a final goodbye to
Rosarie at St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s, NL
on October 11 th from 2 to 6 pm and funeral mass will be held
at St. Joseph’s Church on October 12 th at 11
am, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery to follow.
