It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas ‘Tommy’ Murphy of Parker’s Cove, NL announces his passing. Tommy passed away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, NL on March 17, 2024 at the age of 60.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife, Theresa of 37 years; sons, Adam Murphy (Terri) of AB, Tyler Murphy (Jenna) of AB, Zack Murphy of AB; 4 grandchildren, Emma, Addison, Mason, Marlee; sister, Tina; brothers, Larry Vaters (Bernice), Lloyd Murphy (Sharon), Michael Murphy (Brenda), Ted Murphy, Norman Murphy (Debra), Jim Murphy (Lisa), Boyd Murphy; sisters-in-law, Lucy Synard (Alonzo), Blanche Leonard (Terry), Rosalind Brown (John), Viola Banfield (Leslie), Karen Everitt (Kevin); brothers-in-law, Peter Jones (Linda), Felix Jones, Eugene Jones (Wanda), John Jones (Alice); plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Michael & Genevive Murphy; sister, Josie Murphy; parents-in-law, Thomas & Priscilla Jones; sisters-in-law, Cindy Murphy, Kimberley Murphy; brother-in-law, Ralph Jones.
While Tom left us far too soon, the impact he had on our family and his large circle of friends will be felt for years to come. He passed just as he wanted, in the arms of his beloved wife Theresa and surrounded by all his loved ones. Anyone that knew Tom knows that his “Babe” was his world and he was hers. By his side from the start of his journey, Theresa’s support was heroic right until end.
From the day Tom and Theresa expressed their love through starting a family, Tom worked hard and devoted his life to making a living working away. He would always return with a smile on his face and his heart full at the site of Theresa and the boys waiting to greet him. Family meant the world to Tom and he lived by the mantra of family always coming first. The adoration he had for his three boys, Adam, Tyler and Zack was only mirrored when his beautiful grandchildren came into the world. Emma, Addison, Mason and Marlee were the topic of most conversations and he bragged about how proud he was of each and everyone of his grandbabies.
His love for his community was clear and it was reciprocated by many. That was truly evident when everyone gathered during his fundraiser event and Tom was so proud that he told everyone he spoke to all about it.
Despite spending much time in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor and his kind soul. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his grown children, made all the nurses on his ward smile and crave to be in his presence. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.
The Murphy family would like to express a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors of 5 South B at the Health Sciences Centre for your genuine care and compassion to Tommy during his time of illness.
In honoring Tommy’s wishes, there will be a private viewing for family and close friends and cremation will follow.
Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Parker’s Cove:
Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11:00am
Inurnment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Parker’s Cove.
In Tommy’s memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Murphy Family.
