Dr. Heather Monique Whaley was born on December 20, 1973. She was a member of Central Baptist Church Bearden where she served as a Deacon, served on several committees and taught College and Careers Sunday School. Heather died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, and went to her new home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2023.
Heavenly Father, in this sacred transition, we invoke the assistance of Your angels. May these celestial beings accompany Heather on her journey, guiding her with celestial wisdom and divine grace. As she crosses the threshold between worlds, may the angelic presence be a source of comfort and assurance. Grant us the faith to believe in the unseen realm and the support it offers to those we release into Your care. Amen.
Survivors, celebrating as she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, are her parents, Monroe and Claudeane Whaley; and sister, Tracee (Marc) Knisley, all of Knoxville. Also survived by aunts and uncles, Betty Whaley of Thomasville, NC, Lynda Weetman of Locust Grove, VA, Eugene Whaley of Morrristown, TN, Emily Gail Sellers of Powell, TN, Deborah Lester of Maynardville, TN and Gary (Margaret) White Sr. of Blaine, TN.
Heather graduated from Timpview High in Provo, UT in 1992. She attended Carson-Newman her freshman year. She finished undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee receiving a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology. She received a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Haslam School of Business. Her terminal degree, from UT, a PHD in Human Resource Development, was accomplished in 2006.
Heather began her career with Carson-Newman University in 2006. Most recently, Heather was serving as Professor & Dean of the School of Business and Family and Consumer Sciences and held the position of Associate Provost.
She enjoyed working with young people and influenced many fortunate enough to cross paths. She served on the American Associations of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Board of Directors.
There will be no funeral home activities. Interment will be 2:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Red House Cemetery in Blaine, Tennessee with Rev. Mark Moreland and Rev. Gary White officiating.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Heather directed to the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Carson-Newman University, by going to www.cn.edu/whaleymemorial or by check to Carson-Newman University in care of the Whaley Memorial.
