Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Regina Grace announce her peaceful passing at the Palliative Care Unit of the L.A Miller Centre, St. John’s, on October 16th, 2023 at the age of 65 years, after a long and courageous journey with cancer.
Regina was predeceased by her parents; Patrick and Marie Hickey, brothers; Harold and Eugene Hickey, along with parents-in-law; Gerard and Theresa Grace, sisters-in-law; Roseanne Nolan and Sheila Grace-Girard. She is finally reunited with her precious 4 legged friend Spooky whom she spoke of often and never forgot.
As a beloved wife and devoted mother, Regina will be remembered with loving memories by her husband of 47 years, Gerard. Her children: Renee (Gerald Maynard), Gerard (Meighan) and her most adored grandchildren: Grant, Alexander, Max and Caroline. She cherished her children and grandchildren beyond measure and proudly spoke of them.
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her siblings: Paddy (Katie), Jenny (Brendan), Tommy (Patricia), Gary (Lori), Al (Sandra), Eric (Patricia), Jackie (Eric) Hanlon, Leo and Neil. As well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her two precious pets, Bailey and Spencer.
Regina was a force to be reckoned with; a strong, beautiful soul, who blessed the lives of everyone she encountered and was kind and considerate to all. She was someone who gave selflessly, shared warmly, and loved her family completely. Reginas true love was for her family, they meant the world to her, and she always put them before herself. She was the caretaker for everyone, always had advice, an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. When her mother Marie passed suddenly at the young age of 50, she slowly became the matriarch of her family. She was an easy person to be around and was happiest when in the kitchen cooking and entertaining – no one left her home without a full stomach and days worth of leftovers. She loved a good laugh and had a great sense of humour. Even up to days prior to her passing she still had visitors laughing demonstrating her courage and again thinking only of others first. She will be forever loved and missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Mom was surrounded by the overwhelming love of her husband, children, grandchildren and family during her final days and moments. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cheryl Goulding (NP) who showed exceptional care and kindness to mom over the last few years. A sincere expression of gratitude and admiration for the professional and caring staff of The Palliative Care Unit is extended, who showed such compassion and caring toward our mother and us during her final days. A special thank you to Rhonda Webber and the staff of 7 East, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for the care given to our mother during her time there. Thanks to Gibbons Ambulance. We would also like to extend a special thank you to all who have shown their love and support through mom’s illness especially her sisters, brothers and family, her in-laws, to all who dropped off meals, gift cards for food and checked in often. Your love and compassion will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19th and Friday, October 20th from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Good Shepherd Parish, St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Parish, SMB. on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, O’Donnell’s, SMB.
Flowers gratefully accepted or if friends so desire, donations in Regina’s memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Foundation.
