In loving memory of Ethel Margaret Ryan (née McDonald), June 29th, 1944 – March 19th, 2024.
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ethel Ryan after long illness. As was her wish, she passed away peacefully at her home in Mitchell’s Brook, surrounded by her loving family.
Ethel was a devoted mother and sister, and words cannot express the degree to which she will be mourned by our family. The gratitude we feel to see an end to her suffering is tempered by the knowledge that her absence will be greatly felt every day in our lives.
Ethel was a selfless, hard-working woman who never failed to give tirelessly of herself in service to others and the community. She was known to everyone as the one to turn to for help, always finding a way to come up with a solution to any kind of problem. She was the type to put the needs of others above her own, and we will do our best to continue living by her example.
Ethel is survived by her children Craig , Calvin, Colin and Christa and granddaughter Carley .Her sisters Hannah (Gerry), Margie (Hubert),Tush (Tommy), Phillies and Donna (Pat), her brothers Joe (Liz), Bill(Jeanette), Albert(Louise) and Gene(Florence ).Ethel is predeceased by her brothers Edward leaving to mourn Madeline and George (Carlanne)and by her parents Mary and George.
Her children would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support we’ve received from the rest of our family and friends during our mother’s illness. It would have been impossible for anyone to do more, and we could not have managed without your constant love and support. We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the people in Eastern Health, in particular nurse Jackie O’Reilly and her colleagues at St. Mary’s Health Centre, Dr. Paul Walsh and his staff, Dr. Hogan and Dr. Rideout and their staff, the staff of Conception Bay Pharmacy, and Ethel’s homecare workers Carol Ann, Deana, and Arlene.
A graveside prayer service and interment will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 am with a reception to follow at the Mt Carmel town hall . All are welcome to attend the graveside and the reception that follows . The family hopes that you will help us lay Ethel to rest at Mount Carmel cemetery and dine with us afterwards as we celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Our Lady Of Mt Carmel Cemetery fund c/o Bertha Fowler at fowler_bertha@yahoo.ca
