Eileen Healey Obituary
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Eileen Healey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Eileen passed peacefully away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in her 80th year.
Eileen is predeceased by her parents, Alphonsus and Elizabeth Brophy; brothers Gerry and Leo Brophy, sisters Marion Brophy and Elizabeth Lorondeau, and mother- and father-in-law Catherine and Allan Healey.
Left to mourn, her loving husband and best friend of 61 years, Walter Healey. Nine children: Elaine, Betty (Vince) Myers, Edna (Dean) Smith, Fran (Sean) Davy, Wayne (Sheila), Brenda, Chris (Michelle), Robert (Leah), and Noel (Krista).
Her 17 grandchildren: Leslie Ann Edmunds, Meghan and Colin Gillingham, Matthew, Nicholas, and Mackenzie Smith, Nikita Healey, Caitlin Woodford, Renee and Reagan Myers, Lane Davy, Benjamin Healey, Mason Birmingham, Macey and Norah Healey, and Remy and Lola Healey.
Her six great-grandchildren: Carlie and Cash Melendy, Oliver and Watson Smith, Liliana Smith, Jaden Buckle, and a great-grandchild on the way.
Her sisters: Mary Woodford and Brenda Brophy, and brothers Val, Angus, and Kevin Brophy, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Eileen was happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children and family. She was a star in their eyes, and that’s what truly mattered to her. Her husband Walt was the love of her life, the two were inseparable – a rare kind of love. Eileen loved to cook for her family on Sundays, enjoying each grandchild’s visit. Eileen had a wonderful sense of humour, often surprising you with what she could say or do to brighten your day. She loved nature and animals, especially birds and butterflies. One story her children loved telling was when she cared for a small injured bird and relocated him back to his nest. To be kind and gentle was in Eileen’s nature, forever the nurturer. She showed us the meaning of love and made us the people we are today.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Roger Butler and Trena Snook (Nurse Practitioner) of the Home Dementia Program for their exceptional care and guidance. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Community Services, Eastern Health nurses Tina, Joanne, Taylor, and Chelsea, as well as family physician Dr. E. Aguilar.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at Dunphy’s Chapel on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with cremation to follow. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NL alzheimer.ca/nl/en/take-action/donate or a charity of one’s choice.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory we treasure,
you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
