Edward M. Corbett Obituary
Passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Home on Saturday, December 2nd, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Edward (Neddie) Corbett of Holyrood, aged 73 years. When Mary, his wife of 51 years, reached for his hand at 3:36 AM he drew his last breath. His daughter, Beth Ann, and former home care worker, Dorothy Snook, have been keeping vigil with him very closely in his last few days in Palliative Care. Fortunately his son, Ian, and daughter, Charlene, were able to arrive from Toronto and North Carolina to say their final farewell to him.
Edward is predeceased by his parents: Stephen & Johanna Corbett, Brothers: John (Rita) & Patrick Corbett, Sisters: Helena (Albert) Walsh, Mary (Martin) Myers & Theresa (Cyril) Ezekiel and other Corbett family members. Predeceased also by Mary’s parents: William & Janet O’Brien, her brother David O’Brien and other O’Brien family members.
Edward leaves behind with treasured memories his wife Mary (O’Brien) Corbett, son Ian (wife Stephanie & grandsons Gavin & Liam), daughter Charlene Prazma (husband, Mike & grandsons Daniel & Matthew), and daughter Beth Ann (Corey Harvey).
Also mourning his loss and remembering him fondly will be his extended Corbett family in Chapel’s Cove and all of the O’Brien family, too numerous to be listed here.
Edward will be missed by his former co-workers of the IBEW. He worked as an electrician throughout his career in Bull Arm, at the Aquarena and retired after years of working at Memorial University. Early in his career he and his friend, Dave Kenny, operated a business in Holyrood known as Corken Electric. He also worked as an Electrical Fire Investigator, a job which took him to many communities in NL. Mary often went along with him for company.
When Alzheimer’s took a stronger hold on him he was cared for at home by some wonderful home care workers who came to think the world of him as he was so easy to get along with. Last but not least to care for him over the last couple of years was the staff of Saint Luke’s Home who dearly loved him and affectionately called him “Poppy”.
As per Edward’s Request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 4th, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holyrood on Tuesday, December 5th at 10:00 am with inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland.
