Obituary
With broken hearts, we share the passing of Wilbert Parsons at the age of 74, after a long, hard battle with Parkinsonism and Lewy Body Disease.
Leaving to mourn, the light of his life and soulmate, Velda, daughters Alison (Dwayne), Racquel (David) and the treasures that he loved with his entire being, grandchildren Andrea, Zachary, Megan, Tyler and Alanna, proudest Pop ever. Also left to mourn, his sisters Emma, Ada, Doris, and brother Claude. His in- laws Brenda (Lou), Gary (Judy), Millicent and Ina. His nieces, nephews and friends will miss him dearly.
Waiting to hold Poppy’s hand, his grandson Nicholas, reuniting with parents Lil & Jack, siblings (Malcolm, Alice, and Annie), his in-laws Max and Mary, and his lifelong friends Calvin, Don &; Terry,
Wilbert was a family man first and always. His wife and daughters were his pride and joy. For 32 years, he worked with Gros Morne National Park, making lifelong friendships and being responsible for improvements, especially on the southside of the park, benefiting locals and tourists. Although he loved his role with the Park, his greatest job title began in 1999, Pop, the most rewarding job he ever had.
When the plane touched down in Deer Lake, or tires turned in the driveway from St. John’s, it meant the grandkids were home and his eyes lit up. They knew Pop always had their backs and they know now, Pop will forever walk beside them.
Wilbert lived life with a kind and giving heart. He would give you the shirt off his back and would never want anything in return. He was independent and proud and would never ask for help, even though he knew it would be gladly given.
After family, he loved to golf, play cards with friends, strum his guitar, and drop out to Mean’s shed. To all of Wilbert’s family, friends, colleagues (past) thank you for being part of his journey through life.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the tender and compassionate medical team at the Geriatric Care Facility 2NA in St. John’s.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4th,2024 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm at St. Simon and St. Jude Anglican Church in Trout River. Where also the funeral service is taking place on Wednesday, June 5th,2024 at 11am with Rev. Cook officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in the United Church cemetery, Trout River.
