It is with great sadness that the family of the late Simon Leslie Roberts announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook on July 16, 2024 at the age of 72.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of forty-five years Sherry (Squire), his sons: Chad (Tarah), Carleton Place, ON, and Philip, Massey Drive; his sisters: Muriel Payne (Bob), Rocky Harbour, Mary Oates, Rocky Harbour, and Norma Knott (Tom), Norris Point; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Judy Mitchelmore, Kamloops, BC, Rick Squire (Linda) Corner Brook, Ken Squire, Milford, NS, and Gordon Handcock (Margaret-Rose), Mount Pearl; Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all whom he thought a lot of and they of him; special friends: David and Wanda Payne; kind neighbours: Larry and Paula Price, Calvin and Sandra Pretty; as well as many other friends and acquaintances.
He was predeceased by his parents: Leslie and Rachel (Brown) Roberts; his father and mother-in-law: James and Nettie (Moss) Squire; his sister-in-law: Barbara (Squire) Goodyear; and brother-in-law: Cecil Oates.
A special thank you to all his relatives and friends who brought him lobsters, crab, halibut, and cod, all because he asked for some lobster in his final days; to Chad and Philip, his sons, who stayed lovingly by his side, and did everything he wanted done; to Tarah, his daughter-in-law and her family, for organizing, encouraging, and feeding in any way they could; to his sisters and their families for calling and visiting and being there for Simon with so much love.
Thank-you to Dr. Ennis and the many doctors and nurses from W.M.R.H. and the Palliative Care Unit who were so good to Simon during his illness.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Wendy Squire, who with professionalism, compassion, and care, navigated us through the medical system, and with bulldog tenacity had our backs every step of the way.
Visitation will take place at Parsons Funeral Home in Deer Lake on Thursday, July 18th with family viewing from 1pm – 2pm, and public viewings from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm. Funeral service will take place at Parsons Funeral Home on Friday, July 19th at 11am. Celebration of Life after funeral service at Anglican Parish Hall in Deer Lake. Cremation will follow with burial in Sally’s Cove at a later date.
