Obituary
Our dear mother Norma Marigold Parsons (nee Martin) sadly passed away on May 4th 2024, at the age of 90 at James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander, NL. She was a wonderful mother who was the heart and home of our family.
Norma was born January 21, 1934, in Woody Point, NL to Selby and Nellie Martin (nee Taylor) both previously deceased. Norma is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Baxter. She was also predeceased by her brother, Fred Martin and wife Mildred, brother-in-law Clayton Laing, nephews Bruce Martin, James Martin Jr. and niece Genevieve Belbin (nee Martin)
Norma and Baxter raised four children Wayne (Annette), Cynthia (Craig), Barbara (Christopher) and Christine (Jack). She was a “fun nanny” to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were consistently stuffed with cookies and a constant source of pride and joy for her. Candace, Janice, Lexie, Sarah, Erin, Ben, Abbi, Jared, Rebecca, Julia, Ava and Charlotte. Great-grandchildren Isaac, Sam, Max, Avery, Finley and Evie. She is also survived by brother James Martin and sister-in-law Dorothy and by her sister Doris Laing. Norma had many special family members and friends who meant so much to her over the years, in that she was so fortunate.
Norma was happiest in her little house in Woody Point cooking and caring for all who had the good fortune to come in her door. She loved the little town of Woody Point and served her community by giving her time to many organizations over the years especially the UCW and Seniors Funtastics 55+ club.
The family will be receiving Family and Friends at the United Church in Shoal Brook, NL on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, with Rev. Paul Rumboldt officiating. Norma will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Baxter directly following the service at the United Church Cemetery in Woody Point.
It is a challenge to express the extent of our gratitude to the amazing Doctors and Nurses and staff of the Medical Unit at James Paton Hospital who were such a help and support to our mom in the last 2 months. You helped us cope at a very difficult time. To the staff and friends, she had at Nightingale Manor in Gander, thank you.
