Obituary
Passed peacefully away into the presence of her loving Saviour at the Western Health Palliative Care Centre in Corner Brook, NL, on May 27th, 2024, Lucy Spracklin Newman at the age of 84.
Lucy was born in Little Harbour Deep, NL to Ashton and Lily Cassell. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, William Newman, and later moved to Englee where they raised a family of seven daughters. She loved her family and would proudly tell everyone “that’s my daughters!” Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She worked hard at the local fish plant to help provide for the needs of her family. Later in life, she took on the role of caring for others; where she not only provided daily care to those in need, but also built long-lasting friendships that she held near and dear to her heart.
Lucy loved to knit in her spare time; she always had knitted goods ready for her family when Christmas time arrived. She had a love for music and spent time playing the keyboard as well as the accordion in her younger days. Lucy gave her heart to the Lord while only a young girl and raised her children to love and serve Him as well. She sang in the church choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She spent hours working on crossword puzzles and other activities to keep her mind sharp. She enjoyed watching the NTV news, jeopardy, and wheel of fortune. Oftentimes you could find her sitting in her car overlooking the lake and enjoying the beautiful view. In 2020, Lucy moved to the Deer Lake Manor where she remained until transported to Western Memorial Regional Hospital on March 21st, 2024.
She is predeceased by her husband William Thomas Newman, parents Ashton and Lily Cassell, granddaughter Ashley Newman, Sisters Florence Newman and Elsie Pittman.
