Raymond Arnold Bennett
November 8, 1934 – July 5, 2024
Corner Brook, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Raymond Arnold Bennett announce his passing on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 60 years Rosemarie (nee Jackman); children: Lorne (Jackie), Greg (Semi) and Denise (Dave) Cooper; grandson Andrew and granddaughter Heather; brother Cyril; sister Mabel (Ron); sisters-in-law: Millie, Irene, Peg (Martin), Mary, Cathy and Chrisy (Ed); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Alison, daughter-in-law Lynn, parents Thomas and Phoebe, brother John, sister Mary, parents-in-law Arthur and Helen Jackman, brothers-in-law Douglas, Cyril and Michael, sister-in-law Vivian.
After leaving his home of Island Harbour, Fogo Island, Ray worked in Labrador before attending college in St. John’s and then worked in the mines on Bell Island. There he met and married Rosemarie. They moved to Lewisporte where Ray worked as a welding instructor before moving to Gander, where Lorne and Greg were born. Ray and Rosemarie finally settled in Corner Brook, where Denise and Alison were born. While Ray enjoyed his career as an instructor, his passion was the outdoors. Ray was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved nothing more to be traipsing through the woods with his buddies and to find that elusive moose, with a mug up along the way, or on the Humber River flicking his fly rod for hours to catch a salmon, or on the waters off Fogo Island fishing for cod. Ray loved a good chat and would do what he could to help others. Ray loved his family and he loved his life. “Now den b’ye” was his go to greeting …. Until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday & Tuesday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 10 at 10:30 a.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Diabetic Association.
