Garfield Gillingham
May 22, 1935 – September 24, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Garfield Gillingham announce his passing on September 24, 2024, at the age of 89 years old.
Dad, was born on Sop’s Island on May 22, 1935 and at a young age moved to Pollard’s Point. There he met the love of his life Dora and was married on December 26, 1961. They raised 9 children together whom he loved dearly. He worked hard as a woodsman until the age of 70 and in the year 2022 with mom at his side, they both settled in at a cottage in Pasadena.
Leaving to mourn, his wife Dora; children Dean (Masie), Gaye (Dale), Larry (Bonnie), Denise, Joanne (Gerald), Boyce (Wanda), Sandra (Terry), Corey (Maureen), and Paula (Opee); grandchildren Ryan (Shawna), DJ, Ashley (Carmen), Kayla (Tyler), Jeffrey, Cassandra (Steve), Samantha (Jesse), Jennifer (Marcus), Melissa (Thomas), Brady (Kaitlin), Brittany (Zek), Brandon, and Cody; great-grandchildren Carter, Colton, Adelyn, Quinn, Jace, Benjamin, Saylor, and Isla.
Siblings: Dinah (Neville), Bertha (Willis), Pierce (Yvonne), Ross (Christine), Valerie, Barry (Sandy).
Siblings-in-law: Robert Blanchard, Hilda Head, Elsie Ropson, Patsy Hounsel, Calvin (Loretta), Mary Gillingham, Bernice (Leamon), Viola (Wayne), Mary (Leaton), Terry, Leah, Alvin, Poppy (Randy), Millie Gillingham.
Garfield was predeceased by his parents Job and Bessie (nee Hynes) Gillingham, Parents-in-law Leander and Ethel Ricks; sisters Carrie, Linda, and Margaret; brothers Ray, Albert, and Calvin; sibling-in-laws Winston Ricks, Edgar Chipp, Claude Combden, Rose Gillingham, and Bruce Pittman.
The family would like to send a sincere Thank you to the staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held for family and friends at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Pollard’s Point on Friday, September 27 from the hours of 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Michael Lev officiating. An Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery.
