Wayne Barry White
July 9, 1951 – June 6, 2024
Wayne Barry White, 72, passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, surrounded by family.
Wayne is predeceased by parents, Bert and Ruby White, and brother, Neil White. Wayne leaves to mourn his wife, Pansy; sons, Kristin (Cindy) and Jody; step-daughter, Christina Hoffe (Marshall); step-son, Chris (Courtney) Hoffe; grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, and Madison; step-grandchildren, Tatum, Parker, Phoenix, Danika, Coby, Natalie, Natasha, Hayden, and Hunter; siblings, Bonnie (Bruce) Parsons and Lloyd (Heather) White; sister in-law, Marion Edwards; and special cousin, Kathy Bungay. Wayne will also be missed by a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, and his spoiled fur babies, Bella, Yanni and Yoda.
Growing up on Change Islands, Wayne spent his days doing things he loved, especially on the water or in the woods. At the young age of 19 Wayne left Newfoundland for his first job in Toronto, spending 4 years as a deckhand and performing cargo maintenance on the lake-boats…quite the change from his first job putting eyes in teddy bears in Toronto. Wayne returned home 5 years later to fish with his father and brothers on Change Islands.
Wayne started his family on Change Islands, where he raised his two boys, Kristin and Jody, who he instilled honourable qualities in, like working hard, helping your friends and neighbours, being kind, and having a good sense of humour. Wayne became a Pop to three wonderful grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them.
After his time in the fishery, he worked many years as a carpenter, building wharfs around Newfoundland. In later years, Wayne was blessed by his relationship with Pansy and inherited more children and grandchildren to love. He also built a saw mill where he enjoyed spending his days sawing logs and turning out lumber.
Wayne will be remembered for his quiet, hardworking and calm personality. He had immense love for his family and pride in his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege to know him.
Special thanks are extended to the First Responders of Change Islands as well as the doctors and nurses who contributed to his care.
As a thoughtful expression of remembrance, donations can be made to the Change Islands Fire Brigade/First Responders.
Arrangements entrusted through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander – Carmanville.
