It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on Monday, November 13 th,2023 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NL. Melinda Beatrice Jane Russell, age 89 years of Carmanville.
Melinda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Between her stories, wit and caring personality she was a joy to be in company with. She was in her glee when her house was full and delighted in the meals she prepared for the family.
Melinda was married to Don Russell in Carmanville on Dec 22, 1953 where they remained to raise their three children.
Melinda is predeceased by mother and father Elsie and Howard Coles; husband of 45 years Don Russell; baby Russell; brother Randolph Coles; sister Helen Morgan; brother-in-law Arch Morgan; son-in-law Hughie Gillingham and beloved granddaughter Beverley Brinson.
Parents in-law; Baxter and Fanny Russell, sister-in-law; Ollie (Clyde Hayward), brother-in-laws Walter (Ivy) Russell, Brett (Blanche)Russell, Melvin (Phyllis)Russell and Claude Russell.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her daughters Wavey Russell, Wanda Gillingham (Maurice Connor); son Sam (Sue); grandchildren: Marty (grandson-in-law); Jeanette (Mitchell); Christopher; Samantha (Nick); Jenny (Keith); great grandchildren Sawyer, Beau, Charlotte, Banner, Tennessee and Olivia. Sister-in-laws Violet Coles and Marjorie Russell. Her best friend Peggy Mongeau, And a large circle of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family of Melinda would like to express their gratitude to the devoted homecare workers, compassionate staff of Golden Years Estate where she resided for the last four years; to the thoughtful and caring nurses at JPMH and Dr. Byrne and Dr. Paulus.
As an expression of sympathy flowers greatly accepted or donations may be made to the Carmanville Salvation Army cemetery.
Resting at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Carmanville on Wednesday November 15th ,2023 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
Service to take place from Salvation Army Citadel in Carmanville on Thursday November 16th ,2023 at 2pm.
Interment to follow at the Salvation Army cemetery.
