Owen Eric Vincent Coates Obituary
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Owen Eric Vincent Coates announce his passing, at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, on Friday August 16th, 2024 at the age of 84. Owen is predeceased by his parents Harry and Ivy Coates, brothers Harvey and Raymond, sisters Rose and Marie, and his parents-in-law, Doug and Rosie Alcock.
Leaving to mourn is his loving wife of 62 years, Gillian, sons Greg (Joanne) and Brad (Nancy), daughter Karen and his brother Tom (Gail). Owen also leaves to mourn his 3 granddaughters, Jillian, Jenna and Gabrielle, 2 step grandchildren Alissa and Justin, and a large circle of family and friends.
Owen was born in Botwood where he spent most of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, he was loved and liked by all that knew him. He retired from Abitibi Price in 1996 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Botwood Volunteer Fire Department and a chartered member of the Botwood Kinsmen Club. In his early years he was involved with darts, broomball and softball, and as of lately he loved Saturday night card games with his sisters and brother-in-law.
Special thanks to Dr. Woolfrey, Dr. Noel and the staff at the palliative care unit in Botwood, where Owen spent a short stay prior to his passing. Donations may be made in Owen’s memory, to St. James Anglican Church, Botwood NL.
