Glen Hanson
December 11, 1942 — July 23, 2024
Glen Olaf Hanson was born in Broadview, SK on December 11, 1942, to parents Olof Hanson and Hilma (Andersson) Hanson. He was raised on a combined dairy and grain farm and graduated from Broadview High School in 1960. Glen moved to Saskatoon and attended the University of Saskatchewan for a couple of years and then returned to Broadview to begin his career with the Co-op.
Glen started as a grocery clerk and over the next 38 years rose through the ranks at Federated Coop to achieve the position of Grocery Manager for Western Canada. The path taken led to several transfers over the years and multiple moves for the family. Glen retired in 2000 from Finance at Federated Co-op in the Saskatoon office and then he was able to fully pursue his many hobbies.
Glen married Jean Saleski in 1962. They had daughter Lyla in 1963 and son Keith in 1967. Glen was a member of the Saskatoon Cosmopolitan Club for eighteen years and president for one. He was also a member of the Lyons Club in Broadview. Glen’s hobbies were many and varied. He had a love of nature which led to years of camping, hiking, fishing, and birding. He played around with wine making and produced many bottles of unique Birch sap wine. He was an avid reader and card and game player. He golfed regularly and jogged and cross country skied for several decades. He curled from his teens into his fifties. He was a devoted Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and rarely missed a game on the radio or TV with the occasional treat of watching them in person at Taylor Field.
Glen became quite proficient in fence building, deck building, and landscaping as each new move provided him with the opportunity to hone his skills. Glen’s other love was traveling to many destinations in Canada as well as foreign countries. He enjoyed cruises, air travel, and road trips.
Glen suffered a stroke in 2002 which slowed him down slightly, but he rallied and he continued to enjoy his retirement for another two decades. Glen’s health significantly declined in early 2024 and he passed away peacefully on July 23rd. A small family service will be held in his honor.
Glen is survived by his immediate family: wife Jean (Saleski), daughter Lyla (Clarke), granddaughter Elizabeth, grandson Graeme, granddaughter-in-law Becky, great grandchildren Kinley, Kaybree, and Kohen, son Keith, spouse Stacy Becker, granddaughter Olivia, partner Vishal Tomar, granddaughter Haylee. He is also survived by his brother Doug, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
