Evelyn passed peacefully completing her journey with ovarian and breast cancer at Hospice at Glengarda, Saskatoon.
She is survived by son Christopher Qually (Rhonda) and Emma, Hayden, Jackson, son Kevin Qually and Wyatt, sisters Norma Laird and Tracy Hunchak (Dave), brother Ian Laird (Jerri), and seven nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by infant daughter Jacqueline Qually, brother Robert Laird, and parents Bill and Jean Laird.
Evelyn was born in Shaunavon, SK to Bill and Jean Laird and raised on the farm at Scotsguard, SK. She attended Austinville School from grade 1-6 and Shaunavon elementary and high school grades 7-12. Then, on to the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and achieved B.A. with major in English and minor in Psychology. She graduated from the College of Education with Professional A Teachers Certificate and taught at the elementary school in Archerwill, SK.
Ev married Alvin Qually and had three children, Christopher, Jacqueline, Kevin then returned to Saskatoon, divorced and attended Robertson Business School. She was a single parent and was employed full-time as office manager for a physician, and at the U of S at the College of Engineering and other university departments. On retiring she built her dream home. She had a green thumb and her creativity in landscaping design and home décor brought her many hours of enjoyable labour and solitude, with great physical, emotional and spiritual satisfaction. Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed family gatherings and coffee visits with friends and serious discussions with laughter mixed in. She had a strong disposition, courageous character, gracefully acceptance with an unending sense of humour.
Evelyn enjoyed many animals on the farm and many pets in her life at different times.
Ev’s words for her family and friends, ‘I love you’, ‘To thine own self be true’, ‘Discover who you really are’, ‘Be a critical thinker and don’t follow the crowd’.
Grave side memorial to be held in spring 2025, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
