Eric Carter
October 28, 1959 — September 18, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Alfred Carter, who left us peacefully on the morning of September 18, 2024 at the age of 64.
Born on October 28, 1959, in Montreal, Eric Carter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, known for his kind heart, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. Whether he was fixing a car or offering a listening ear, Eric was always there for those around him. His passion for working on cars was matched only by his deep love for his family, who were the center of his world.
Eric is predeceased by his mother, Florence Mildred Carter (Parsons) in 1984; his father, Aubrey Alfred Carter in 2018; his brother, Leonard Carter in 2002; his father-in-law, Ron Winbow in 2017; his mother-in-law, Jean Gustafson in 2020; and his brother-in-law, Ronald Winbow in 2021.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Laurie Carter (Winbow), and his two sons, Sean Carter (Katie) and Ryan Carter (Ashley), whom he was incredibly devoted to. He also leaves behind his much-adored grandchildren, Richard, Elizabeth, and Cameron. Eric is survived by his siblings, Audrey Laurent (Mike), Marie Spence (Malcolm), and Raymond Carter, as well as his sister-in-law, Teresa Weatherhead (Brian), his mother-in-law, Florence Winbow, sisters in law Lorraine Vanderzwan and Nora Walker (Barry) and brother-in-law Russ Stoney (Cheri). Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
At just 17, a few days after graduation, Eric moved to Vancouver and began his schooling for automotive repairs. It was there that he met the love of his life, Laurie, and built a successful career as a mechanic and business owner. He later managed Chevron gas stations and Triple O’s restaurants in Surrey and Langley BC while raising their boys into their teens. In 2007, they moved the family to Lucky Lake SK, where he opened Carter’s Service and worked maintenance part-time at the Lucky Lake Health Centre.
Eric cherished time with his family above all else, and spent many joyful days on the water with his children and grandchildren. A dedicated coach when his boys were young and unwavering supporter of all their sports and interests, Eric never missed a game, if he wasn’t coaching, he was always proudly cheering from the sidelines. Upon moving to Lucky Lake, he was a strong supporter of the Lucky Lake community, frequently volunteering at local fundraisers and events. He was also a member of the Lucky Lake Fire department for many years until his illness.
Known for his vast record collection and encyclopedic knowledge of cars and sports, Eric was a proud and passionate Montreal Canadiens fan, much to the playful dismay of his sons. In their free time, Eric and Laurie loved taking road trips, having card nights, golfing, ice fishing, darts, and playing kaiser with their closest friends, Aaron and Linda. His infectious laughter, playful teasing, and love of life will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him. Eric was always known for his calm demeanor and gentle ways with the little ones in his life earning him the affectionate nickname the “Baby Whisperer”.
Eric leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Eric’s Celebration of Life will be held in Warman, Saskatchewan on October 27, 2024 at the Cork and Kettle (520 Central Street West) from 1-5 p.m. Come and share some memories with some music, football, hockey, food and drinks.
