Ruth “Marie” BILLETT Obituary
(Ruth) Marie Billett
January 13, 1934 – July 6, 2024
It is with profound sadness we announce that our dear Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma aka Grandma “B” has passed away.
Mom was born in the Rosetown Hospital to Gladys & Elmer Mills of Herschel, SK on January 13, 1934.
She was their second child and oldest daughter. Mom had a fun upbringing she said, going to school, running thru the hills of Herschel and she had a great love of ice skating. In her teenage years Mom worked at the local cafe to earn pocket money while still in high school. After Herschel, Mom moved to Sovereign to be a telephone operator. That is where she met and married Wilf Billett in November of 1952. They lived on the family farm and had four boys. In 1958 they moved to Zealandia where they opened a Mechanic Garage and had their first daughter. The next year was followed by another son and two years later another daughter. Their family was complete in 1963.
In 1967, they had a great opportunity to open a Cockshutt Dealership in Harris, so, after Dad completed “half” of a new house on Main Street, they moved their family to Harris. This new endeavour gave Mom and Dad many opportunities every year to travel and meet many wonderful people. They were also able retire and live winters down south at a very early age!
Mom loved sewing and often made costumes for all seven kids for Halloween, Christmas Concerts or whatever else was needed. She was a great seamstress and was still sewing for herself and others, well into this year.
As kids got older, Mom became even more involved with UCW, Royal Purple and Curling. Mom also began painting, taking University Art classes, became a member of the Photography Club, the Painting Club, Golf Club and the Bowling Club, all out of Rosetown.
After moving to the “Station House” by Harris in 1976, Mom began the hobby of ceramic. She then began teaching ceramics for many, many years. There weren’t many houses in Harris that did not have some kind of ceramic masterpiece.
Many years later Mom and Dad moved to Biggar and then onto Saskatoon.
Mom became a Widow in 2002.
In 2003 Mom was fortunate enough to strike up a traveling partnership with our Uncle Edgar Isley. They enjoyed many, many years traveling and socializing together with their many friends and relatives.
Mom resided in Saskatoon until 2021 when she moved to Lions Manor in Rosetown at the age of 87. Mom’s health began to decline very soon after she arrived. She put in a valiant effort for almost three years and was lucky to move, yet again, to the Rose Villa in Rosetown this past May. She was treated exceptionally well by the Staff and the Ledding Dr’s until her passing.
Mom was very proud of her large family and her love language was “food”. She always hosted gatherings at their home, including Easters and especially the large Christmas gatherings. She loved when the family could all be together!
Other than her family, her proudest accomplishment was receiving her 70 Year Royal Purple Membership Award this past January. She was so honored and proud of her Royal Purple and Elks family!
Mom had a great life, loved people and visiting, and we will miss her dearly.
Marie is survived by her children: Son Darryl (Wendy), Dustin (Jenny) children Carson & Brooklyn, Kyle, Brodie (Michael) & Treya. Son David, children Drew (Vanessa), Alexa & Hailey, Dustin Dane (Christina), Kate. Daughter Barb Bell (Terry), children Jason Bell, Braxton & Briggs, Scott (Jessica) Bell, Max & Charlie Ann, Nicole (Sean) McFatridge, Brendan & Grayson. Son Rick (Trudy), children Melissa Carlson, Kalli (Cameron) Boutkan, & Kinley. Daughter Heather (Greg) Love, children Angela Love, Emily, Tanner & Everette, Chad (Holly) Love, Holden & Dawson.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilf Billett, sons Larry Billett and Chris Billett, daughter-in-law Jewel Billett, parents Elmer & Gladys Mills, brothers Don, George & Vern Mills, sister Faye Ramsey and special brother in-law Edgar Isley as well as by many other brothers and sister in-laws.
“Today is a day that the Lord has made, be glad and rejoice in it!”
