Robert “Tim” CARNEGIE Obituary
Robert Burns Timothy Carnegie, 65, of Marriott, SK, died January 17, 2024, in Rosetown, SK. Tim passed peacefully in his sleep at Rose Villa following several years of illness. His family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Rose Villa who cared for Tim for the past few years.
He was born on August 5, 1958, in Saskatoon, SK, to Rhena Rose Carnegie (King) and George Floyd Carnegie.
Tim attended Harris Tessier Central school until grade 10, when he entered the workforce to help support his mother and his younger siblings. He was a devoted eldest son, and worked to help his mother take care of the farm and his younger siblings. He worked as a grader operator for the RM of Marriott for much of his life, and was promoted to foreman of the RM. He was reluctant to retire early from his duties following a brain aneurysm in 2005, and he was described by his rural community as the best grader operator around. Tim took great pride in keeping the roads maintained properly and cleared for his neighbours and friends, and was often the first call from many following a blizzard, and worked overtime to ensure people could get where they needed to go.
He married Valerie Bennett in September of 1984 and they had four children, Zoie, James, Patrick and Kellianne. Tim and Valerie divorced in the early 90s and he remained a bachelor for much of his adult life. Tim was always a devoted father and maintained strong ties with his children even when they lived far apart. He overcame a long battle with alcoholism in 1995 and his family was so proud of his strength and dedication to improving his life. He poured himself into his children and his work, and would do anything to help his family.
Tim absolutely adored children, and was blessed to have so many children and grandchildren in his life. He was happy to carry the “wee ones” around the farm to see the critters, climb in the machinery, and go for rides on tractors, and learn to “drive” other small vehicles. He loved to pull his kids around behind the skidoo on makeshift toboggans, and enjoyed teaching kids how to do things around the farm, especially building fences and gates. He was always willing to provide materials for kids to build rafts or tree forts, and would help to ensure they were safe. He was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed working to build up his little hobby farm at Marriott, SK, where he raised his daughter Kelli and kept a small herd of Dexter cattle and chickens. He enjoyed putting up hay on his own land and working for neighbours, and worked a few quarters of land to produce various grain crops. He was only a phone call away when any neighbours needed a helping hand on their farm. He truly enjoyed working, gardening, and tending to his animals. He felt closest to God when he was working the Earth.
In 2008, he met Corlene and fell madly in love. Corlene and Tim were married a few years later. His family expanded as he became an important man in the lives of Corlene’s six children: Justina, Elizabeth, Corlene, Sonya, Racquel, and Giles, as well as their many grandchildren. Tim and Corlene’s love and happiness inspired everyone who saw them together. Their smiles lit up a room and they were devoted to one another. Together they worked to build their home at Valley Centre, which had long been a dream of Tim’s. Before his illness, he built the wood basement, and took great pride in doing much of the building with Corlene to realize their dream. Together they tended extensive gardens, and cared for a diverse menagerie of critters. Tim’s life was made better by his marriage with Corlene, and he experienced absolute joy and a very full life of love for many years. He became an integral part of Corlene’s family and he will be missed by all, but especially by his ‘Dear’ Corlene who stood by his side until the very end.
Tim is survived by his loving wife Corlene Carnegie, his children Zoie Dawn Carnegie (Edmonton, AB), Patrick Ryan (Jennifer) Carnegie (Port Alberni, BC), and Kellianne Rose (Alex) Carnegie Meeres (Regina, SK), as well as step children Justina Michelle Robinson (Marriott, SK), Corlene Ryanna Robinson (Harris, SK), Elizabeth Anna Robinson (Kelowna, BC), Sonya Marie Stanton (Macklin, SK), Racquel Patricia Stanton (Saskatoon, SK), Giles Earl Stanton (Harris, SK), Hunter Anthony Robinson (Harris, SK) and twenty grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Eve (Henry) Symuk (Barrhead, AB), Herb (Michele) Carnegie (Fort Assiniboine, AB), Mickey (Connie) Carnegie (Barrhead, AB) and Ina (John) Johansen (Clyde, AB).
He was preceded in death by his mother Rhena Rose Carnegie (Fort Assiniboine, AB, in 2006), his father George Floyd Carnegie (Rosetown, SK in 1999), sister Nona Carnegie (Barrhead, AB in 2020), child James Robert Carnegie (1987).
A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Activity Centre, Rosetown, SK.
