Margaret “Evelyn” SVOBODA Obituary
Evelyn Svoboda passed away on December 6, 2024 at the Long-Term Care Facility in Outlook at the age of 96.
Evelyn was born February 27, 1928 to Fred and Margaret Ilett. Evelyn was raised on a farm near Hazlet, Saskatchewan with her four siblings Fred, Phyllis, Walter and Shirley. After completing her education by correspondence, Evelyn took a job at the hospital as a laundry housekeeper in North Battleford. She then took a job at the Milden Hospital where she met Paul Svoboda. Paul and Evelyn were married October 4, 1949. They purchased a farm north of Milden where they raised their three children Lloyd, Margaret and Mary.
Evelyn embraced the farm life where she spent many hours gardening, canning, tending her chickens, ducks and geese, helping Paul with the care of the cattle and pigs and driving the grain truck during harvest. Evelyn was a talented seamstress who made clothing for the family. She also enjoyed knitting and embroidery and would have many projects which she worked on through the winter months. She was a member of the Royal Purple for many years. Paul and Evelyn retired to Rosetown in 1986 where she continued to grow a large garden which she shared with family and friends. She loved having a flower garden once moving to town and spent many hours puttering about. She had the tidiest well-kept yard where weeds were never allowed to grow. She enjoyed bowling and was treasurer of the Seniors Club for several years. After Paul’s passing in July of 2005, she remained at their house until moving to Lions Manor in 2016 where she stayed until declining health required her to go to a private care home in Biggar in late 2022. In March of 2024 she moved to Long Term Care at the Outlook Health Centre until her passing.
Evelyn is survived by her children Lloyd, Margaret and Mary (Chris) Thunstrom; granddaughters Laurie, Heather (Shawn) Eden, Danica (Cody) Funk and Alyssa; great-grandchildren Brieanne, Braylie, Hayden Evelyn and Eldon; daughter-in-law Mary; sister Shirley Goddard as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Milden Cemetery with nephew Garry Ryan officiating. A social gathering will follow at the Milden Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Children’s Wish Foundation or to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
