With great sadness, the family of Sylvia Nash announces her passing after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, with her husband, Smoky, by her side. Sylvia Shwaykowski was born March 13, 1954, in Dauphin, MB. She was raised on a farm near Shortdale, MB and attended Winona Elementary School and Roblin High School. Sylvia started her working life as a radio operator for Transport Canada in Thompson, MB in 1977. There she met the love of her life, Smoky Nash, and after moving to Regina, SK for his career, they were married on June 12, 1982, in Roblin, MB. In Regina, Sylvia worked at Boston Pizza for a while and then obtained a position with the Transport Division for the Canadian Red Cross where she worked until she decided to retire and travel more with Smoky after his retirement. Sylvia and Smoky enjoyed many years as snowbirds, spending their winters in Puerto, Pinasco, Mexico and summers at Sherwood Forrest, near Regina. Throughout their travels, they made many lifelong friends from all over, enjoying opportunities to reconnect and share their stories, year after year. Sylvia’s family was extremely important to her. She has many nieces and nephews that have all said her “auntie” advice and love will be missed. They all had a special bond with her that she ensured was nurtured and they always knew how proud she was of them. Sylvia had an unwavering love of all animals, especially her cats, Sheba and Maynard, but also had dogs, a cockatoo, and even a skunk (of course, before she met Smoky). She lived life to the fullest and was always fun to be around. Her heart is what we will all miss, as well as her infectious laugh, beautiful smile, her creativity with her artwork, her positivity, her love of shopping for the best deals on anything and her excitement of showing off whatever treasures she had found. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Pauline Shwaykowski; Smoky’s parents, Frank and Sheila; her sister, Lucy Cobb; and grandnephew Emerson. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of over 42 years, Smoky. Sylvia is also survived by her brother-in-law Brian Cobb, niece Tamara Pisio(Darryl), and grand-nephew Nathan; nephew Tyler Cobb(Julienne Morissette); nieces Deb Beyko Crosbie(Grant), grand-nieces Sydney and Madison; Pam Martin(Ron), grand-niece Abbi and grand-nephew Avery; Stephanie Kehler(Brad), grand-nieces Breanna and Shantelle; Sherry Frost(Jason), grand-niece Katie and grand-nephew, Matthew; sister-in-law Gloria Penner(Randy), nephew Kent Penner(Jenna) and grand-nephews, Camden and Nash; nephew Verne Penner(Amber), great-nieces Tiffany and Diamond; brother-in-law, Randy Nash(Linda), nephew Kyle Nash(Joanne), great-nieces, Niamh and Eoife, grand-nephew Cillian; sister-in-law Dale Owen(Pat), nephew Brett(Darrell), nephew Mark Owen(Emily) and grand-nephew Forrest and grand-niece Daisy; and dear friends, Erika Romero, Leo and Ericka; as well as many cousins and many friends. The family would like to thank Sylvia’s oncologist, Dr Ayesha Bashir, and all the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital and Grace Hospice in Regina for their care and compassion. A private Interment Service will be held for Sylvia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, 4545 Parliament Avenue, #200, Regina, SK S4W OG3 or any charity of your choice.
