Alexander (Alex) Burkhart passed away suddenly on January 4, 2024, just one month shy of his 104th birthday, with his family at his side. Alex was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa, in 2015, and his granddaughter Krista, in 2019. He was also predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Anna Marie; brothers Micheal (Katherine), Steven (Mary), Gabriel (Josephine); sisters Barbara (Robert), Theresa (John), Margaret; brothers-in-law Peter (Jean), Joseph (Steffie); and sister-in-law Madeliene (Lewis). Alex is survived by his son Ronald (Margaret); daughters Leona (Tim), Elane (Ken); granddaughter Nicole (Brayden) and great grandson Beckett; sister-in-law Steffie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends.
Alex was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan and stayed on the family farm until he married Theresa in 1948. Dad began working for his brother in 1949 at Burkhart’s Service Station and Garage. In 1951, he garnered employment at Sears where he remained until retirement in 1985. His retirement years were spent around his home in Regina, always providing advice to his children, spending time with his granddaughters, finding something to fix at home (or other places!!) and chatting with friends and neighbors. He always had a joke to tell and loved to discuss current affairs as well as reminisce about the old days. As Dad got up in years, he became a known figure in the neighborhood where he lived for doing the work of someone well below his years. Dad stayed in his own home, even after Theresa passed, until he injured his hip in 2022, still doing things that men 25 years younger couldn’t do!
Alex was a good and hard-working man that cared deeply about his family, especially his granddaughters and great-grandson. He will be missed by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by all.
At Alex’s request, there will be no funeral service. An interment for immediate family will be held at a later date. Flowers graciously declined. Donations in Alex’s memory can be made at the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Trinity Manor at Westerra Retirement Home for their care and kindness during Dad’s stay. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Barry Lotz for his care of Alex over the years.
